TLAU donors do a lot to help our sponsored students, so I thought it appropriate to provide a closer look at them with a picture and other information, including history, course of study, and aspirations. Enjoy!

Mirian is 19 years old and lives with her aunt and sister Jency Aracely (also a TLAU becado). Both her mother and father have passed away. After working her way through high school, TLAU agreed to fund her university education, and she is currently working on her education degree at the Universidad de Sonsonate. Her dream is to be a teacher where they are badly needed.

Maira is 17 years old and lives with her mother in Santo Domingo, where they live on $50.00 per month. Her father died years ago. Someday she hopes to study at the university and become a teacher, but it is not likely that her mother will be able to afford the tuition.
Jorge Perez Elias is 24 years old and and is currently studying Social Sciences at the Universidad Modular Abierta in Sonsonate under the patronage of TLAU. He lives with four brothers and sisters on a combined household income of only $25 monthly, so he spends whatever free time he has as a vendor in the market. Jorge is very dedicated to his studies, works very hard, and is a responsible and honest young man.
Jensy Aracely is 16 years old and is currently studying education at the Instituto Nacional Abdul Gutierrez in Sonsonate. She lives with her aunt and sister Mirian (also a TLAU becado) in a small, very poor neighborhood called “El Caulote”. Both her parents died when she was young.
Raquel Garcia is 16 years old and is currently studying education at the Instituto Nacional Jose Adolfo Brito in Sonsonate. Her father is a farmer and her mother makes clay pots, and together they earn $100 per month for their five children. She hopes to be a teacher.
Roxana is 16 years old and is currently studying at the Instito Nacional Abdul Gutierrez in Sonsonate under the patronage of TLAU. She has five brothers and sisters and their family income is $200 per month. Roxana hopes to be a teacher.

Gerson Eli is 17 years old and has always stood out among the other students because of his excellent marks. He lives in Santo Domingo with his parents and six brothers and sisters and is studying agricultural engineering (with the help of TLAU) at the Instituto Nacional Thomas Jefferson. His dream is to attend the university and earn a degree in agriculture so he might help his father who is a local farmer. Since receiving the help of TLAU, he has earned excellent grades (marks of 8,9, or 10 out of 10).
Christian Garcia is 18 years old and is currently working for a general high school diploma at the Complejo Educativo de Santo Domingo de Guzman. He is a very good student that receives excellent grades. His dream is to study at the university, but if he doesn’t have the money, he plans to enter El Salvador’s national civil police academy.

Carlos Alfredo Perez is 18 years old and is the third of four children living with their single mother who supports the family making pupusas (corn snacks) in the town square. Under the patronage of TLAU, he is studying agricultural engineering at the Instituto Nacional Thomas Jefferson in Sonsonate. His favorite subjects are maths and the health sciences, so he feels right at home studying how to improve crop outputs of basic grains (beans, corn, and millet). He wants the donors to know that his dream is to help his family have a better tomorrow.

Lidia Maribel Sanchez is 17 years old and is currently studying agricultural sciences at the Instituto Nacional Thomas Jefferson in Sonsonate. She has four brothers and sisters and her parents earn an average of $150.00 per month. Lidia is the only girl studying agricultural sciences at her school. She has a deep desire to help her father work in the country.
