Fr. Keane received a Bachelor’s (1984) and a Master’s (1990) degree in Civil Engineering from N.C. State and worked as a Civil Engineer for 13 years before he was called to become a Catholic priest. He first visited El Salvador in 1996 and lived in Santo Domingo de Guzman from 1997-1998 while discerning the priesthood, and it was then that he heard a special call to devote his efforts in a special way to the least and poorest among us. He was ordained for the Diocese of Raleigh in 2003 and is currently pastor at St. Mark Catholic Church, Wilmington, North Carolina. Along with Leonard Nelson, he founded The Least Among Us in 2001 and continues to be a powerful voice for his “hermanos” in El Salvador. Fr. Keane travels to El Salvador three times a year to check on the progress of the projects and to maintain contact with the scholarship recipients.
